The Senate unanimously adopted a resolution directing the secretary of the Senate to withhold senators' pay during any lapse in federal agency appropriations, with payments released once a shutdown ends, according to CBS News. Said sponsor Sen. John Kennedy: "Shutting down government — it should not be our default solution to our refusal to work out our issues and our differences." The resolution, which passed 99-0 earlier this week, takes effect after November's election under the 27th Amendment's restrictions on mid-term pay changes.
