Republican legislators across the South are moving to redraw at least six districts held by Black Democrats, a campaign that could extend to a dozen seats by 2028, according to Punchbowl News. Said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries: "This is an assault on free and fair elections, an assault on racial progress in America, and an assault on Black representation and the ability of African Americans to actually simply elect the candidate of their choice." The Congressional Black Caucus, which reached a record 62 members this Congress, called a special Democratic Caucus meeting for today to address the fallout from the Supreme Court's Callais decision, which gutted Section Two of the Voting Rights Act.
