Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy, one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Donald Trump in 2021, faces a closed GOP primary where Trump-endorsed Rep. Julia Letlow and former Rep. John Fleming are his opponents, according to NBC News. Of the 17 House and Senate Republicans who voted to impeach or convict Trump, the only three who survived subsequent elections — Reps. Dan Newhouse, David Valadao, and Sen. Lisa Murkowski — ran in open or jungle primaries; every pro-impeachment Republican forced into a closed Republican primary was either defeated or declined to run again.
